In Loving Memory of
Betta A. Cox

Betta A. Cox, 90, passed away at 11:35am on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. She was born on March 30, 1928, in Alton, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Flora (Gurley) Sammons. She married William “Bill” M. Cox, Jr. on January 1, 1975, in Wood River, and he preceded her in death on January 19, 2006. Survivors include four daughters and a son in law: Mary and Daryl Hall of St. Louis, Nancy Parks of Buffalo, New York, Jan Blaske of Edwardsville, Amy Hashimi of Naperville, Illinois, nine grandchildren: Matthew Hall, Samuel Hall, Annie Hall – Carlson, Alex Parks, Sarah Hijuelos, Drew Blaske, Max Hashimi, Luke Hashimi, Ross Hashimi, four great grandchildren: Harper Hall, Aiden Hijuelos, Parker Hijuelos, Spencer Hijuelos, one sister: Virginia Chamberlain, and many other extended family and friends.

Betta was formerly employed as a realtor at Brown Realty in Edwardsville. Betta was a state champion flower arranger, she taught ceramics classes, was the President of the Garden Club, and did cosmetology in her younger years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son: Freddie Joseph Schien, a brother: Johnny Sammons, and two sisters: Margaret Christy and Evelyn Hilyard.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services will be held at 10:15 Wednesday September 3, 2018, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. 

Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
