Georgia A. Holmes

Georgia A. Holmes, a woman of faith, and life-long resident of Edwardsville, lL passed from this life on Saturday, November 16,2024 at 9:10 PM at Alhambra Rehab and Healthcare Facility in Alhambra, lL at the age of 89. Georgia was born Georgia Anne Upchurch on October 15, 1935 to Lloyd Presley Upchurch, Sr, and Elsie Marie Armstrong-Upchurch in Benton, lL. She was one of four siblings. Georgia was married to George Wm. Holmes on November 21, 1953 in Springfield, lL and enjoyed 50 years of marriage together until his death in 2003. Georgia leaves behind her three remaining adult children, Jerris L. Jordan, Rebecca (Becky) A. Holmes and Stacey M. McGhee. She also leaves behind one sister, Dr. Barbara Jean Valenzuela, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. Georgia attended The First Baptist Church of Edwardsville, lL for six plus decades where she taught Adult Bible School for many of those years. She was employed, in administration, at the Alton State Mental Hospital in Alton, lL for over 40 years. After retirement, Georgia volunteered for the AARP Tax Program and serviced tax returns for other seniors for close to 30 years. Georgia is preceded in death by her loving husband George Wm. Holmes (2003), her son, Wm. Scott Holmes (1998), her grandson, Bradley W. McGhee (2012), her parents, a sister Stella M. Phillips and a brother Lloyd P. Upchurch, Jr. Per Georgia's wishes, an intimate and private service will be held. lnterment will be alongside her husband, son and grandson at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, lL. ln lieu of flowers the family, kindly, requests donations be made in her memory to either The First Baptist Church of Edwardsville, lL or The Senior Center in Edwardsville, lL. All service and burial arrangements are being coordinated by The Saksa Funeral Home in Edwardsville, lL
