In Loving Memory of
Gerald Richard McDougal Sr.

Gerald Richard McDougal Sr., age 85, of Edwardsville, died at 2:09 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Edwardsville, the son of the late Young and Elizabeth Sternitzke McDougal.

He married Sylvia M. Giardina on June 28, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Park Street in Edwardsville. She survives.

Also surviving are his children: Rich McDougal of Bonita Springs, Fla., Marcia (David) Schaefer of Edwardsville and David (Terri) McDougal of Marine; grandchildren: Quinn, Courtney, Johnathan and Samantha McDougal, Josh (wife Sheena), Katie Schaefer and Kaitlyn nee Gray and her husband Mike Hemann; one brother: Dennis McDougal and dear friend Nancy Evans and beloved dog Kricket.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Elaine McDougal; a niece: Bonnie McDougal; in-laws Tony and Catherine Giardina; brother-in-law: Tony Giardina and infant sister: Donna Marie McDougal.

 

Mr. McDougal worked at the Union Pacific Railroad for 31 years as a rate analyst in St. Louis, Shell Oil for 13 years and the Olin Corporation for four years. He loved living on Dunlap Lake, watching the birds and wildlife in the yard. He enjoyed fishing from his pontoon boat and visiting and helping neighbors. He was a member of the Edwardsville High School Class of 1949 and was a graduate of St. Boniface Catholic School and the International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pa.

 

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Bergbower officiating.

 

Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials are suggested to masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
