In Loving Memory of
Robert Dean Stuart

Robert Dean Stuart, 78, of Edwardsville died January 17, 2018, at Kapalua Golf Course in Maui.
Born April 10, 1939, in Granite City. The son of James and Verna Diehle Stuart.

Bob graduated from Granite City High School in 1957. In 1961, he graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. While at Missouri Valley, Bob lettered in basketball and golf. Additionally, Bob received a Master's degree in Education Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville for over 50 years.

On June 25, 1961, he married Sandra Stephens at the Van Brunt Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

Bob had a long and distinguished career with the Edwardsville School District beginning in 1961 as a science teacher and coach for Edwardsville Junior High School. Bob was named Assistant Principal of the Junior High and then became Principal of Glen Carbon Elementary School. In 1983, he was promoted to Director of Instruction for the district and then named Assistant Superintendent in charge of Curriculum. In 1991, Bob was named Superintendent of Schools and he remained in that position until his retirement in 1996. Bob considered the passing of the referendum and overseeing of the construction of the new high school located on Center Grove Road to be the highlight of his career.

Bob was a proud member of DeMolay, Jaycees, and the Rotary, where was named a Paul Harris Fellows Scholar. Bob was appointed and served on the YMCA board and was Commissioner for the Edwardsville Fire and Police Commission.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandy, and his two children, Stacy (Randy) Wimmer of Richmond, Va., and Steve (Katie) of Edwardsville. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Taylor (Jamie) Lockhart of Dahlgren, Va., Dean and Hannah Stuart of Edwardsville.

Visitation will be at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home on Friday, January 26, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, January 27, at 10 a.m., a visitation at the First Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville located at 3601 Ridgeview Road will be immediacy followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the American Heart Association.
